Most useless line ever in a training manual.

I wanted to know what the difference between a summary and detail filter is, and the only information I have is this:

"When you use a detail filter to filter a report only on detail data items, none of the data items in a detail filter are summary data items."

Grrrrrrr, how helpful!

    Is it something to do with how Cognos describes the type of data?

    Detail = Name, Address, Male / Female
    Measure = Year, premium, claims

    You can summarise measures, but it's difficult to summarise a name. Hence they are different types of data.
